AAQR: 3D Space Game

Frontier: Elite II
3D Space Game is a VERY faithful adaptation of the old BBC game "Elite", which also made its way onto Apple II's and other computers. It was the inspiration for many other such games, including Wing Commander: Privateer, X: Beyond the Frontier (and now X3), Tachyon: The Fringe, and other "one ship against the world" type games (in a sense, it's also related to Star Wolves and Space Rangers).

The problem is the representation is a bit too... strict. Controls are twitchy is heck, radar, jump pints, and such are almost invisible. There really is no virtual joystick, tilt only. Throttle is hard to use without keys, and then where are the rest of the controls? Eeek.

You'll need a lot of time to get this game working... but it's sure nostalgic. And what do you really expect for a free game?

Rating: Try it
