NOTE: LaunchPro Plus now has THEMES!

The themes are for the widgets only, and you will need the paid version (the free version have no widgets) to use this. Basically, install the themes, then EACH widget can have a separate theme.

Most of the themes so far is way too transparent to make good reading of the contents. However, they at least mean the authors are trying a few things. Most of these themes are free, though a few are asking for $1.00 USD.

I have tried several, and most are really basic. I'm waiting for a GOOD LCARS implementation. :D

No link, as there are a lot of these.

AAQR: Skyfrontier 3D (game, free)

Skyfrontier is a weird game. It's basically a run-and-jump game, except you're using a spaceship, and it's in 3D.

Basically, imagine playing something like a driving game... tilt controls left/right movement. Don't "fall off" the road.

Then imagine gaps in the road you need to JUMP over, and obstacles you need to jump over too. There's a jump button.

Make it into the "end hangar" to finish the level and go onto the next one.

The tilt controls are good, and the graphics are smooth. Is it a good game? Hmmm...

AAQR: 3D Space Game

Cover art for Frontier: Elite 2Image via Wikipedia
Frontier: Elite II
3D Space Game is a VERY faithful adaptation of the old BBC game "Elite", which also made its way onto Apple II's and other computers. It was the inspiration for many other such games, including Wing Commander: Privateer, X: Beyond the Frontier (and now X3), Tachyon: The Fringe, and other "one ship against the world" type games (in a sense, it's also related to Star Wolves and Space Rangers).

The problem is the representation is a bit too... strict. Controls are twitchy is heck, radar, jump pints, and such are almost invisible. There really is no virtual joystick, tilt only. Throttle is hard to use without keys, and then where are the rest of the controls? Eeek.

You'll need a lot of time to get this game working... but it's sure nostalgic. And what do you really expect for a free game?

AAQR: Track your 3G (data counter, free)

Track Your 3G is one of those data counter apps that tracks your data usage, both WiFi and 3G, so you don't get charged for overages.

The app looks interesting. It provides both 3G and WiFi tracking, and per-app accounting (i.e. know exactly how much data did each app use).

However, after a few days trying it, it has a LOT of problems.

First, it loads TWO services, not just one. Add that to the app itself, and it uses up to 22MB of RAM (most of the time is stablizes at about 16-17 MB). That is just ridiculous for an app that sit in the background most of the time.

Second, the user interface isn't obvious. It's not obvious what is "clickable" and what is not. Nor is there any sort of graph on WHEN the bandwidth was consumed. There is not even a way to show ONLY 3G data (ignore the WiFi stuff).

Sorry, but I have to stick with 3G Watchdog for now.

AAQR: Twisted Colors LWP (free)

Twisted Colors, from Maxelus who brought you the 4 galaxy LWPs, has a couple color-shifting blobs making weird patterns and spins in formation. It's hard to describe, and it's free, so just try it.

AAQR: Continuum LWP (free)

Continuum is a live wallpaper that has a cute purple analog clock, but otherwise, it's pretty plain.

AAQR: SuperClock Live Wallpaper

Yet another clock live wallpaper, this one has a variety of options (though most of them are NOT active in the free version, except 3 fonts)

AAQR: Space STG II (game, free)

Space STG II is a sequel to Space STG, a real-time strategy space conquest game on Android phones.

The mechanics are classic: build cities / planets, build fleets, conquer other planets.

Unfortunately, the game mechanics itself is not very clear, esp. with the limited amount of screen space available. Buttons look nice, but any sort of explanation like when should I build a transport vs. fighter vs. destroyer is completely lost. Tutorial is virtually useless.

This is NOT my first time playing any sort of 4X game. I played the ORIGINAL Master of Orion, Civilization, and such. I know a good addictive strategy game when I see one, and Space STG II isn't it.

NOTE: Paid version available

AAQR: SD Sync (Utility, free)

SD Sync's job is very simple: it triggers the built-in "media scanner" to scan the SD card so the gallery or music player see any songs or pictures you placed onto the SD card.

If you have stuff that doesn't appear in the gallery or such, run this and it should fix it.

Very simple, and works.

AAQR: (U) Plane Live Wallpaper (free)

Plane Live Wallpaper has a cute cloudy background with the moon, and one little plane making random turns on screen. It's... cute. However, the perspective is wrong... the plane doesn't move like that.

AAQR: (U) Grassoid Live Wallpaper (free)

Grassoid is another series of time-based live wallpapers from ARTware (the Treeoids are the others, to be reviewed later). The "grass" bends based on time. It's minimal, yet artfully done. It may be a bit plain, but it is fun.

Fairy Live Wallpaper is supposed to have an animated fairy (with wings and all) on screen.

In practice, it just force closed on my test Android device.
